ORVILLE HANSON 1915 2011 On Tuesday, May 31, 2001 at Grace Hospital, Orville passed away at age 95 from a stroke. He was predeceased by his parents, Jon and Gudrun Haflidson, his wife Lorna (March 14, 2008), four sisters and two brothers, and son-in-law Bob Shields. Orville will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Judy Shields and her children Shannon and Rob; son Bill and wife Cathy and their daughters, Jessica (Trevor) Farski, Marcia and Kyla; and son Russell and wife Cindy and their children Gillian, Brooke and Michael. Orville was born November 28, 1915 in Winnipeg, MB. He lived in Langruth until he was 11, when the family returned to Winnipeg. At age 14, he left home to work in the mine at Red Lake, Ontario, to help support his family. He later worked in the Hollinger mine at Timmins, Ontario and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1942, serving overseas during the Second World War. Orville's hockey prowess was well known, and put to use with the mining and army teams at home and in Europe. Following the war, Orv returned to Winnipeg and married Lorna Drennar on July 5, 1946. He worked for Canada Post until retirement in 1976 when he took up golf and enjoyed many fishing outings with friends at Lake of the Woods. In later years he devotedly cared for his wife, Lorna, who suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. Orv was a much-loved father and grandfather, who will be missed. At his request, there will not be a funeral service. For those who so desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Orv's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
